Cookie Policy

Last updated: January 2026. This policy explains how GetEduMail uses cookies and similar technologies.

1. Introduction

GetEduMail uses cookies and local storage to provide and secure our service (e.g. keeping you signed in and remembering your .edu email session). This Cookie Policy describes what we use and why. For how we collect and use personal data more broadly, see our Privacy Policy.

2. What We Use

Cookies

  • Authentication (essential): When you sign in, we set a first-party cookie (e.g. userToken) so the server can recognize you on subsequent requests. This cookie is necessary to keep you logged in and to access your inbox and account. It is set with an expiry (e.g. 7 days) and is removed when you sign out.
  • Analytics (non-essential): We use third-party analytics tools such as Google Analytics, which set their own cookies to measure traffic and usage patterns (for example, which pages are visited, how long users stay on a page, and general information about the device and browser). These cookies help us understand how people use the site so we can improve it. They are not strictly necessary for the core .edu email functionality.

Local storage

We use the browser’s local storage (not cookies) for:

  • Signed-in users: To store a copy of your user details (e.g. name, email) and session information so that when you reload the page or return later, the app can restore your logged-in state without asking you to sign in again, as long as the authentication cookie is still valid.
  • Guest .edu email: When you create a free .edu email without an account, we store the email address and related details (e.g. expiry time) in local storage so that after a refresh or a short time away, you still see your created address and inbox until it expires or you delete it.

We do not use local storage for advertising or third-party tracking.

3. Why We Use Them

  • To keep you signed in and to authenticate your requests to our servers
  • To remember your guest .edu email session so you don’t lose it on refresh
  • To improve security and prevent abuse (e.g. by linking requests to a valid session)

4. Third-Party Cookies

Our authentication cookie is first-party only (set by our domain). We also use third-party analytics (e.g. Google Analytics), which set their own cookies (or use similar technologies) on your browser to help us measure traffic and usage patterns. When we use third-party advertising (e.g. Google AdSense), those partners may additionally set and read their own cookies on your browser to serve ads, measure performance, and personalize advertising. You can learn how Google uses data when you use our site or our partners' sites and apps here: How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps. If we add other analytics or third-party services that set cookies, we will update this policy and, where required by law, obtain consent for non-essential cookies.

5. How to Control Cookies and Local Storage

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings (e.g. block all cookies, or delete them after each session). You can also clear local storage for our site via your browser’s developer tools or privacy settings. Blocking or clearing our authentication cookie will log you out and you will need to sign in again. Clearing local storage will remove the stored guest .edu email and any cached user details; you may need to create a new .edu email or sign in again. Disabling or clearing these may limit how the service works (e.g. you may not stay signed in across reloads).

6. Updates

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

7. Contact

For questions about our use of cookies or local storage, contact us at support@getedumail.com or through our Contact page.
