Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2026. GetEduMail ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy.
1. Introduction
GetEduMail provides a free .edu-style email service so you can create temporary education-style addresses and unlock student benefits (e.g. GitHub Student, Spotify, Adobe). We believe everyone is a student. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it when you use our website and services.
2. Information We Collect
- Account and email data: When you create a free .edu email, we store the address (e.g. username@domain), optional expiration time, and associated inbox messages for as long as the account is active or until it expires or you delete it.
- Registration and profile (optional): If you create an account, we store the information you provide so we can link your .edu mail to your account and sync across devices.
- Contact and support: When you use the contact form or email support, we collect your name, email address, and message content to respond to your request.
- Newsletter: If you subscribe to updates, we store your email address to send you notifications.
- Usage and technical data: We may collect log data (e.g. IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) and use cookies or similar technologies (including analytics tools such as Google Analytics) to operate the service, prevent abuse, and understand how people use our product.
- Advertising (when applicable): When we use third-party advertising, those partners may collect information as described in Section 6 (Cookies and Similar Technologies).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the free .edu email and inbox service
- Allow you to claim and manage your .edu address and view received emails
- Respond to your support requests and contact form submissions
- Send you product updates or newsletters if you have subscribed
- Understand how people use the site (for example, which pages are visited and for how long) using analytics tools such as Google Analytics, so we can improve the product and user experience
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security issues
- Comply with applicable law and enforce our terms
We do not sell your personal data to third parties for advertising or marketing.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
Guest .edu email accounts and their inbox content may be automatically deleted after the expiration period you receive when creating the address. You can also delete your email account or inbox data at any time from the product. When you delete an account, we remove the associated data from our systems in accordance with our retention practices. Some data may be retained longer where required by law or for legitimate operational purposes (e.g. backups, abuse prevention).
5. Sharing and Third Parties
We may share data with service providers that help us operate the service (e.g. hosting, email delivery, analytics such as Google Analytics). These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually restricted from using it for their own purposes beyond providing their services to us. We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or safety, or in connection with a merger or sale of assets (with notice where appropriate).
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the site is used. When we use third-party advertising (e.g. Google AdSense), those partners may place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons or similar technologies and IP addresses, to serve ads and measure ad performance. For more information about how Google uses data when you use our site or our partners' sites and apps, see How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect the functionality of the service or the relevance of ads.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS). Despite our efforts, no system is completely secure; you use the service at your own risk.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, or to data portability. You can delete your .edu email account and associated data from the product. For other requests (e.g. access or deletion of account or contact data), please contact us at support@getedumail.com. If you are in the EEA or UK, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
9. Children
Our service is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. International Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions) where required by law when transferring data internationally.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For material changes, we may provide additional notice (e.g. by email or a notice on the site).
